Araucana thread anyone?

Im so excited! I have made a pen within my big pen for my black LF! I now have some solid black girls to go with my black roo. My first goal is to try and get rid of the bleed through.

...did I mention Im excited lol!

I had the strangest thing happen last night. I had to dispatch a rooster that I was not going to use going forward in the breeding line. I waited until after dark and did the dead. Sorry for getting graphic but I use large pruning loppers because its better than missing the mark with a hatchet. The loppers tend to break the neck but not cut all the way through the skin so the head stays attached.
Anyway... After his wings stopped flapping, I put him in the compost so I could bury him in the morning (too tough to eat). Later that night I was falling asleep watching SNL and I heard an unusual squawk from the back yard... Ya... You guessed it...
There is the rooster looking like nothing had ever happened. But right behind him was an opossum. I grabbed a shovel and chased after the opossum eventually killing it. Then I had to redo the deed on my old boy. Since I was wide awake and blood pumping, I went ahead and dug the hole and buried the two of them.
It was very strange. I must have some how just stunned the roo?? Had I not left him in the compost, the opossum would have probably made its way into the coop instead of finding him first. I was very glad to have heard it. I lost several young ones last year to an opossum but could not figure out where they were going.
Maybe a just killed the one magic opossum that gives life back to chickens instead of taking it away!

I thought I'd let everyone know that we are back into araucanas! My family was at a show a couple weeks back and won a pair of white araucana bantams. Not the BBR largefowl that I wanted but I'm sure I can use them somehow. The rooster has the weight of a cornish, very hefty guy
Glad to see you back, you need to talk with Lanae Cash or Ann Charles about BBR's. The correct BBR is based on wheaten so they're fairly hard to come by.
My blacks are looking great and I just posted an ad on ebay for a dozen of my hatching eggs.

Your birds are beautiful! That shiny, jet black color is stunning! Is that a blue? or lavender? next to the black?
