I have the most wonderful broody hen. I don't know what she is but I put two chicks under her on sunday and 2 hatched today also. I put them under her and kept an eye out. She settled right down with them. I check on them every couple minutes and she seems happy. A couple more are hatching and it will be nice not to have to brood any chicks this weeks.

So far I have a black EE X Araucana, blue splash, and two blues from Sunday for this weeks batch. Still have 8 more that should hatch.

My last batch are being raised by a 4 month old turkey. She has taken to running off the other chickens if they get to close to her babies. It is so cute.

I will take a pic tonight when they go to bed. They all sleep on a seedling heating mat even though it is fairly warm here. It is so cute. She flys on top on the sheds or the house and it really upsets them. They will set up a fuss untill she comes down.

The blue buff one as huge eyes and very nice color. Nice looking birds.

Are they bantam? The buff blue has a bantam looking face. Either way, beautiful birds.

My cuckoo roo chick has green in his wings, and he is getting larger black splotches. So my guess is he will end up a darker version of my splash hens since he is not lightening up but actually getting darker as he gets older.

Just spent the morning moving chickens around. With winter approaching since it is october, I wanted to move all my roos to the covered pens and decided to move my 3 and 4 month old pullets with them. Now I have a true duckwing pen. Yippee!! It has two duckwing roos. 1 tufted, 1 cleanfaced. 6 hens for now all but 1 tufted and I have 2 or 3 more hens coming. I am also looking at one of my cleanfaced growout BBR roos. He is looking pretty nice and I may put some tufted hens in with him. He may escape the freezer if he keeps looking good. I cannot wait untill spring since I am almost done hatching for winter.

I love having a sink in my greenhouse/chicken staging area. It is so convenient for cleaning out water and food dishes. Dirty dirty birds.
