Hi folks. I'm new here, so pardon me if I'm not up to speed. Slinky is likely silver, wheaten and mahogany. The roo who fathered the new chicks is likely birchen and split for silver. He probably does not have melanotic, as he has silver/gold leakage. Handsome lad.

Jocelyn,

I've always loved your pictures of your birds and knowledge of their genetics, what types of Araucanas do you have? Do you still have your 18 year old Quechua Hen and the chicks she hatched? Would love to see pictures of them if you do.
So glad you're here.

That's what I was wondering too. . . If she's a true Quechua and not from a hatchery. Still, 20 years, wow!!

No, she is not from a hatchery. She comes from southern Chile. There was an oil worker who brought eggs home and gave them to his father or father in law...can't remember which. I got eggs from the older lad the next spring. He said he had hatched only the eggs from Chile, so I suppose they they are straight quechua. We had a snail mail round robin then, before internet, each person added a letter to the bundle and mailed the whole thing to the next name on the list. It was actually her mother I hatched, she hatched here, at our place. I bought my first computer in 92, and she was a young hen then.

And, here is chick #2. Number 1 was identified as probable cockerel. This one was identified as probable pullet.

What do you think their adult feather color will be? and why?

edited to add that of 4 eggs, these 2 hatched, one did not develop and one was dead in the shell and that one was black, rather, had black down.
