Araucana thread anyone?

Lanae,

Huge congratulations! I know you've been anticipating these girls

Thank You Cathy,

I am so eager to get them. I have their pen all set up and ready to go. Now I will look around for a tufted duckwing roo for them. Untill then once they are out of quarantine they will go in with my tufted duckwing splash.

Let me know when you have your paypal account set up. I will be wanting to get some eggs from you out of Slinky and Degas.

Lanae,
I moved the 2 chicks out to the Serama building that I hatched (Slinky/Degas chicks) and they would have had the heated building and been able to go out with the others to the enclosed yard but it got so cold again I put them in a cage inside that building and the one we figured was a pullet, stuck her head in a hole that should have been too small for her head and she must have gotten stuck cause she broke her neck, I was so sick over loosing her! The other one is presumed to be a cockerel and he's the tufted/rumpless one. He will be for sale when he's older but he sure doesn't look duckwing at this point, silver something I'm guessing but what?

Also, I put some of Fawn's hatching eggs on the auction here again, I did get set up on Paypal so it should work out now. I also listed some out of my black cuckoo Maran hens that are in with Rudy and Spot. They should be sex links and I had some really cool chicks from that cross last year so if they don't sell, I'll hatch them and sell the chicks later.

Here is the Degas/Slinky cross chick that will be for sale. I plan to put him on the auction here when he's older and maybe after I've used him to breed later this year. I really want to see what his mature feathering will be like....what "is" this color? If I'm wrong and he's a she, I'll be keeping her but I had several breeders tell me he's a cockerel.

Had to add this one........I'd swear it was a girl with that "look" I was getting.

Ann,
Thanks, I just looked him over and yup, he's a boy. His hackles can't lie,

Oh well, he's tufted/rumpless and well interestingly colored, lol.... I'm keeping him at least till he's showing his adult feathers. Have you seen any that were this color? I don't recall my other Araucana chicks doing a lot of changing with the first feathers. A little red leakage on the black seems to pop out later but most of the other chicks are pretty much the same as they were when they were first feathered out.

Cathy

Technically that chick doesn't have hackles yet. . . But he sure is a definite boy!

Ironically he will color out to look exactly like your run of the mill Easter Egger. (dom white over duckwing, possible columbian too)

He is coloring out like my duckwing splash did. So I will throw my hat in the ring and say splash. Here are pics of mine as he is growing and changing.

Here he is at 4 weeks

Cathy,

Yep yours is definately a boy, beyond the color of him, all his feathers look pointy. When I look at my two month old pullets and roos side by side, my pullets feathers are all soft and rounded looking from stem to stern, but the roos feathers all are longer and more pointed on the ends. Even before they get their saddle feathers, their neck feathers grow in pointed. I will try to take pics tomorrow to show you what I mean. I am an aweful photo taker so bear with me.
