Araucana thread anyone?

No. The blacks can have black legs, but the soles should still be yellow, making the toes a greenish color. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see why I should be. . . Pink on the legs signifies the bird has white skin, thus, not an Araucana.

But, Poularde, it sounds like your blue rooster has the "swarthy horn" leg color that is called for in the bantam BBS color variety. We had a question about what that color was exactly and I think that the final agreement was that it is a yellow based skin color - yellow legs - but with the dark skin coloration over top, which is what it sounds like you are describing. There is still a lot of flux with the blue Araucanas and the swarthy horn leg color may not be the standard for that much longer, but for now that is what they are calling for. Blue is an accepted color variety in bantam Araucanas only (though that is not stopping us from trying to breed them large fowl!).

He is a Lf. And his color is not up to standard anyhow because he has gold leakage. He is my first Araucana and I hope to be able to use him. He is favorite roo I have. He has quite a few faults and no tufts. Here is a photo of him. I do not know if you can see the leg color. His soles are yellow greenish for sure. I might try to get a better photo today. So with all his faults I was wondering if leg color should be added to his faults.

Are araucanas feather sexing like some breeds? lanae would be the one specifically i ask because they are her line. 3 of the 4 have good set of wing feathers on them, 1 of the 4 (although among the biggest) has only small wing feathers yet.

Also, Any thoughts on how to fix a watery bum? started out that way, and only made worse by things pecking. been cleaning and using polysporin a couple times a day.

Late feathering chicks usually are boys from what I am experiencing here. The girls tend to get their all over feathers pretty quickly and the boys look naked down their back for quite a while. That is not always the case, but tends to be with my birds.

As far as the pasty butt, keep it clean and it will clear up with time. The birds with the nasty butt their whole life tend to be the fuzzy butted ones. They have so much fluff that their poop or mud on a rainy day, gets caught in it. Pasty butt can be caused by stress, short backs, and a whole host of other things, but it always clears up. Now a watery behind, not sure of, try some apple cider vinegar in the water and see if that takes care of it. You could also feed scrambled eggs, some oats, cooked quinoa, sweet potatoes. That works for me. Their bellies like it and it seems easy to digest and move on through.

How are the babies doing otherwise. Do you still have 5 or are you down to 4. Araucanas can be so frustrating most times. Then I go outside and look at my babies running around and think yep this is what I love.

i'm down to 4, 3 are robust, 1 had that ass. not even sure what to call it... its caked in white, though i clean it throughout the day. I dab some polysporin on it when i clean it as there look to be some scabs on it too... right now, i'm fairly frustrated... not gonna lie... I've been doing sugar water. i can try the scramble eggs, sometimes its interested in food other times not so much. its well featherd on the wings, but is loosing weight. I just dont know what to do for it anymore.

Syble, I understand your frustration. Is the chicks butt distended? If so then he is not processing his food well enough and it is to large to pass which is blocking all the rest of the poop from being expelled. Sometimes it is almost cottage cheese like also. You will need to flush all the poop out. Not that difficult if your not squeemish. A syringe minus the needle and lukewarm water will do the trick. Just be gentle.

There was the most beautiful egg pic posted on the Araucana club forum. It was laid by and Ameraucana but it is the bluest egg I have ever seen. Simple amazing color.
