Araucana thread anyone?

Just got back from Elma on this FABULOUS day- wasn't it great! We had a nice little show with a splendid potluck and good company. Steve Waters' LF white araucana hen Lady Champ was Ch. AOSB and his (unnamed) black bantam araucana hen was Ch. AOCCL. Rob's bantam black araucana hen "Stevie" was Champion of Show in the Youth Division. Overall, a nice showing by Washington araucanas.

Syble, It does get frustrating doesn't it! Waiting 21 days and hatching only a couple of chicks. Out of three clutches in my LG's I only have 7 chicks to show for it. Each setting was an average of 20 eggs, some infertile and some died just days before hatching. Could easily blame it on my 'bators but not any better hatches under broodies. One day maybe a Sportsman.... Know it's not because they are Araucana eggs as I am not doing any better with my EE's. Usually they will just about hatch if I leave them in the sun for three weeks. Has been awful humid here this Spring, the 'bators are in my basement and without any water in the 'bators humidity still runs at 40%. Any clues as to getting better hatches? Have been using LG's for years and always get a pretty good hatch rate. Charlie

Charlie, are your EE eggs fertile and still not hatching, or is your rooster possibly aging and not quite getting the job done this season? I had a little of that going on at my place this year.

Just hatched 9 out of 13 eggs. The others died while hatching. One had a beak but no face. I was shocked that it had started hatching. Poor thing. So I have 8 from my tan pink project with 3 tufted and 1 from my birchen pen tufted. So far out of my birchen pen I have hatched 8 total chicks with 5 of them being tufted. Pretty good percentage.

I have decided to get rid of my birchen roo. He is my avatar bird. He just plain does not like me. He doesn't seem to be this way to anyone else. I have a couple chicks to possible take his place in the breeding pen, and I am tired of being attacked every time I put food out.

On a happy note, my tan pink project ( trying to get the blue egg gene back) is giving me alot of tufted chicks. They are all double tufted which is neat. Now if I can just get the right egg color.

Just Steve and Rob this time. I always have people come up who are interested in the breed, but they usually change their mind once they hear how hard it is to get those cute little tufts.

well hes dry today, still needs to work on the fluffing. really looks black rather then dark blue to me. the egg was labeled a blue. rumpless but no tufts i dont think. Still cute though:
