Araucana thread anyone?

To my vast annoyance, this year's hatches are coming up with mostly clean-faced whites with a lot of tails, but I'm getting some very pretty AOV chicks (which I despise- no color for me please) with nice tufts that are rumpless, also a few decent blues. I am out of chick boxes but would entertain a motion to try shipping chicks if anyone knows where to get boxes without buying a bazillion. These are all bantams, by the way.

I thought I would put up a pic of a proper Araucana rooster, with a proper bum and a tail!
(Your birds always look like kiwis to me! lolol)

Psst, that's not a proper one even in your country. It's missing beard/muffs

Stacykins, He looks much better in the new photos than your avatar. Someone will be very lucky to have your free boy!
FYI My blue boy Scott had no red on him until he was over a year old. He now has just a smidge around his face and a little on his shoulders.

You can just barely see the rust color on his wings. It wasn't there before.

Where is that boy located? Does he still need a home?

He does still need a home, link to pictures in my signature (same bird as my avatar), but since you're in CA I don't think it would work out. I have an adult poultry shipping box, brand new with filters. BUT I'd need him to get him salmonella pullorum-typhoid tested by the state, and I believe that costs a pretty penny here in Michigan.

Just wanted to share my 3 pullets. I know their color is not perfect but I have to start somewhere :). The center will go with my new large solid black cockerel and the two duckwings will go with my silver birchen until I find or raise a male tufted duckwing.

And this will be the Roo that will go with her and another double tufted black pullet.

And here is a better pic of her tufts

I have a question for all Araucana broody owners. How many eggs can they brood? I have two ladies that are broody for the second time and it seems that I can only get three eggs under them that they can cover. Is that about right or should they be able to have more?

My gal Josephine went broody weeks ago, started with an enormous treasure trove of over 16 eggs, and at the moment, due to hatch any day, she's handling 11. I do not know if all 11 have been safely heated throughout the time, but I do know at least 8 of them have been, as I've candled and marked them.

A big component here is on the size/weight of your Araucana and also the fluffiness and density of her feathers and fluff.

Previously I've always let my girls sit over 6-8 eggs just to be safe. I know they can do 8 though, but sometimes if they're in a spot where others can bother them, I do 6 for safety.
