Araucana thread anyone?

Just thought I'd post an update on my 3 little araucana chicks. The striped one looks almost like the color of lavender BBR, s/he is very pretty with the pastel colors. The other two that I thought were just splash almost look like they are splash cuckoo
I love diluted colors, post photo's when you can ;)

Forgive me, since I don't know much about chocolate genetics. Is it sex linked? Is that how you know those chocolates are pullets at such a young age? They are lovely, and will be even more lovely as they mature!

Yes they are recessive, sex linked chocolates

Thanks! I always love learning new things about chicken genetics.

We have a new Araucana owner in Michigan now! I just sent of 13 chicks with their new chicken Mom earlier today!

I think that while not ideal, shipped eggs work better than their reputation would have everyone believe. I have had hatching rates on shipped eggs go anywhere from 60 to 100%. I think that some sellers (like some ebay sellers) hide behind the shipped egg thing to account for their own low fertility. I have had many, many dozens mailed to me, and I have only ever had 2 broken eggs. And one of those was because the ebay seller packed them horribly. You should try shipped eggs, though, and decide for yourself.
I am in the process--I ordered eggs from Ray_n_Debi here, and am pretty excited about it. I am going to put them under broodies though, so it would be good for at least a couple to hatch so the moms don't have to go through another cycle. I have tried hard to find local hatching eggs of nearly any pure breed (my own chickens produce mutts) and I have struck out. I'm looking forward to little Araucanas though!

How many broodies do you have now?

Our flock has new additions today Im excited we had 2 chicks hatch yesterday..I just wonder how Im going to be able to know what kind of birds they are haha

Silly broodie. She's setting some Serama eggs for me right now and I was worried about her getting too hot and dehydrated. She refused to drink or eat when I offered it so I left her with a chunk of lettuce. I checked later and it was gone. I was hoping she ate it and the other hens didn't steal it from her but when I checked the eggs for any newly laid Araucana eggs in her nest, guess what I found???? She had stuffed that chunk of lettuce under her. I've had hens set some weird things but never lettuce
