Araucana thread anyone?

I need to post new pictures of my flock. I lent my camera to my Dad for a few weeks though, since it takes amazing pictures.

For instance, the bird who was mottled (album on my profile) is now completely black! She's beautiful, with massive, even tufts now and a pretty rumpless tush. Does that mean she would pass on the recessive mottled gene? Is she a carrier for mottled, rather than homozygous (which I assume would stay mottled their entire life).

Not 100% here but it is my understanding it take two mottled to show. I have some black NN that have a mottled parent so am expecting that even though they do not show it, when they are bred w/ a mottled roo their offspring should show mottled at least 25%

If she was mottled as a chick but not as an adult then she most likely only has 1 copy of the gene. And she could pass that 1 copy on. If you know who the dad is then breed her back to the dad and you will get some mottled chicks. I have mottling in my flock and I have to be careful who I breed to whom or I will get mottled chicks, which I don't want.

You still have this guy Lanae? He is so gorgeous.

Yes, I have kept him because he is based on silver duckwing. I have him paired with my show hen at the moment and hoping for at least one silver duckwing male I can use in the silver pen.
