Araucana thread anyone?

Those are 2 of the pullets I kept back from the ginger-blue pen (non standard blue breasted red) I can't decide which style I want to go after more lol

her mother is nice and curvy like your girl so i have high hopes of her filling out properly once she matures a bit lol

I have a boy who unfortunately is clean faced. He would be just wonderful with that hen. I just love so many non standard colors. It will make it hard to make up my mind.

i went into them thinking i would keep blue and black only, i disliked all the other colors... yeah now its a 50/50 split lol. We'll see how things shape up next fall when i have tufts where i want them lol. To be honest the 1 standard color that i liked and tried to get was silver duckwing... no good though, everything was brassy or red lol

I think I know what you mean. I was obsessed with duckwing. I just love so many of the odd colors I have right now. Thought I should share a pic of my lovely blue duckwing girl. She was an absolutely lovely hen. An excellent mother also. I just recently lost her to a coyote. I thought her color was breathtaking. I only have a couple cockerels from her who are mutts.

It was a great loss.

Here are her sons. She was an older hen and did not lay very much. All the eggs I tried to hatch from her when she was with another Araucana were infertile. As soon as she was with a different roo I got these two.

Here are a couple of pics of the tufts I prefer.

I loved this pullet but she died at 5 months.

This hen has perfectly even tufts for a few days but she has a hard time maintaining the right one. I have only 1 photo on another computer of her tufts when they are perfect. Right now I am hoping the right ones grows back for the Stockton poultry show.

I got alot of balanced tufts last spring in my chicks. I didn't keep this guy because his color was not correct.

My silver duckwing show hen, but to me her tufts are too droopy and I wish they aimed to the back of her head.

This hen was amazing but I sold her because her color was not correct for what I am breeding. I love this photo.

Thank you for sharing. Please let me know if you get anymore girls like that last one. I would give my eye teeth for her.

Will do. I have a silver duckwing hen I got from Ann Horsman that could be the sister of your older hen. The face, and body type are identical. She is older and rarely lays an egg either. I have had her about 2 years and hope to eventually get a pullet from her with her shape. To me this is the ideal build of an araucana hen. I have a few running around with this perfect shape. Here is my hen from Ann.

I believe my hen I lost came from Ann Horsman also. I have a rooster from her also. He is not quite what I want , but he is a good guy and my first Aruacana. He gets to stick around. He takes good care of my layer hens, chicks and juevies. Sappo... I do love his shape though. I have gotten some pretty nice boys out of him and some lovely Olive-eggers.
