I hatched this Araucana pullet back in September. She does not have the muff, beard, or ear tufts but has a completely rumpless rear. Is she still considered Araucana?

Thank you so much! I had a hatch of Ameraucana and Araucana but I forgot to label the eggs as I normally do. Figured I'd wait till they were older to ask. :D Would her coloring be considered blue?

No, she is considered to be an Easter Egger solely because she carries the blue egg gene. If a bird is off the APA SOP it's not showable and not considered to be purebred and not Araucana. She can be considered to be an Aruacana "type" bird but can't be sold as or termed to be purebred. Check the APA guidelines and it will clarify it for you. To be considered purebred they have to breed true 50% of the time and also have to fit the APA SOP. If it doesn't then it's not considered to be purebred. Birds like yours are usually culled so they don't pass their faulty genes on to new generations at it would muddy up the purebred line.

"The tufts gene is lethal when two copies are passed to the embryo. A cleanfaced Araucana is one that does not carry the tufting gene and cannot pass it on." I read this quote on another post. Would she be a good candidate to keep for a roo that does have the tufting?

Good to know. I am taking notes so I know what I'm looking for in the future. It's definitely been a learning ground!
