Araucanas Escape Artists

I have 5 beautiful 3 week old Araucanas & 4 Black Australorps who are driving me bonkers in their kitchen brooder. It's not very sophisticated but it worked just fine for my last batch of chicks (Buff Orps & Barred Rocks). These guys jump until the chicken wire gets moved, then the Araucanas escape and lead my flock of dogs and children on a merry chase through my kitchen and dining room.

I plan on moving them to the garage soon but need to know when I can put them out there. The chicks down is almost gone.It's usually pretty cold in the garage as it has no windows & it's north-facing. I'm planning on moving them to something like a dog crate in there with a 100 watt heat lamp. Will that work?
