Are 2 eggs possible?

Is it possible for a pullet to lay 2 eggs in 1 day? My wife went out to collect the eggs and there were 2 hens laying and no eggs. I went out later and found 2 eggs where wifey said a N.H. Red was setting. Is it possible for a chicken to lay 2 eggs at a time? I know pullets are capable of doing strange things before their inner workings are working correctly but 2 eggs at a time seems a little much. What do you think?

We got 3 in a day a couple of times when we only had 2 hens, so it is possible, but the extra one came in the late afternoon. Your girls just laid in the same nest when no one was looking.

They both probably layed in the same nest. They seem to preferr the same nest oftentimes.
