Are 5 month old chickens basically full grown?

I want to put zipties on their legs because it is getting hard to tell them apart. I use to use zipties when they were littler, but got really turned off by it because they grew too fast and I felt it was dangerous.

At my local pet shop I can get special chicken tags this at £0.05 each they adjust to the hens size and come in lots of colours, have a look around and see if you can find any, they will be more effective than zipties. 5 month old hens are not done growing but their growth will be more gradual now.

I have Buff Orpingtongs and Black Sex-Linked chickens ... there legs are quite stocky. I wouldn't even know what size to get. Do those come in different sizes?

If you have a quick look on Amazon - search for 'chicken leg rings' and there are lots of different varieties from things for quail to geese and I'm pretty sure they are adjustable, just have a little look

If you're in the United States, check out www.cutlersupply.com. They have plastic spiral bands, as well as numbered bandettes. The bandettes tend to be stronger and last longer. For heavy hens (e.g., orpington, wyandotte, plymouth rock ), you'll need a size 11 (11/16").
