Are all Leghorns and Andalusians Spastic?

I think it has to do with environment and treatment as well. My Leghorns have been raised with Australorps, RIR, and White Rocks. They are actually calmer than most of the other chickens they are around. My little one, Vera, always comes right overto me when she sees me and wants to be picked up. They do startle easily when they see things like the cat or dog, but as far as interactions with me, they are totally loveable. I did put slightly more effort into keeping them tame and calm when they were tiny, but it wasn't difficult and it definitely paid off. Then again, it could also be luck of the draw.

My banty white leghorn adults are a little skittish. I have about 15 chicks ranging from 1 week to 5 weeks right now and the 5 week olds are funny. It's nice to watch them spar and if I put hand in the brooder box they all bum rush me to see who can jump up in my hand. I hope they don't wind up as skittish as the adults, but who knows.

I must admit, they are a bit ADHD at times. It's like they want to cuddle, but after a minute or two, they are off popping around the yard. lol I wonder why they tend to be that way?

My Andalusians are extremely active. They're friendly and quirky and they're my favorites. I love to watch them run, and run they do! They chase anything that moves, including the cats. I think Elderoo is right, it depends on the personality of chicken owner, whether you like that or not.

All my chickens are pretty active. The Blue Andalusians I have are no more or less so than the others. The roo is really quite sweet and easily handled as is my little Wallflower, she likes my shoulder. I have one other hen who just wasn't handled as often early on. She'll let me pick her up, but she doesn't like it. I think all of the factors named so far (environment, breed) play a role in how any animal behaves, but the amount of individual attention you give them can be a mitigating factor. Mine have been held and talked to, at least, once a day since they arrived.

i have 2, 3 year-old white leghorn hens raised from chicks. they are very calm and friendly, always the first to greet me and follow me all over the yard, they will run to keep up. we got new chicks this year, i liked my leghorns so much i wanted more, except i wasn't big on white. i was so excited they came in colors!! i got three rosecomb browns and three reds.

the browns are spastic. i'm very dissapointed in them. if i look at them they run. the reds are much calmer, though a tad shy. but i'll take shy over spastic any day. oh, and are they ever beautiful!

we got 43 chicks in all, 13 diff breeds, all handled the same, and it's been fun seeing the different breed personalitys right from the start. we also got 4 more chicks then 6 more from 2 diff places, all 7 weeks. some breeds we had, some were new. none of them are as friendly as ours, there's a lot to be said for handling, even within the same calmer breeds.

oh, and we only got 2 browns, the third, as well as an extra chick, looked identical to the browns, little grey chipmunks(so i just thought we got an extra brown) but 4 weeks later they're still little grey chipmunks, with single combs. very friendly. any ideas?

I raised leghorn chicks last year, and promptly traded them for calmer birds, they were pretty hyper for me, we kept them till they were outside for a few weeks, and were so high string and got all the other birds going
not a bad quality I guess, just not a calm nice yard pet for me quality eigther
