I have just put a torch to my eggs for the very fist time - i am exactly 72 hours into the incubation process. The egg shells are dark in colour.

I see not spidering at all. I see the yoke float to the top - a couple its at the bottom. Its a dark shadow, but i don't see anything like spidering or anything.

When will i defiantly see spidering occur? Or does it sound like all my eggs are duds?

Thanks

I'm the same way. :) I'm only 48 hours into my incubation and every time I candle it, I feel like it's a dud, but I can't wait to find out!!

Wait, wait, wait! Don't be throwing eggs out until day 8 to 10 unless they are white shelled eggs then I would wait till day 6 or 7. If you have any doubt at that point leave it in there and check again at day 14 or 15. Sometimes ones you are sure are duds end up being strong healthy chicks. The only reason to throw one out early is if you are worried about it becoming an egg bomb.

What I do is candle day 7 or 8 and if I think some are duds I mark them with a pencil and put them back in the bator. If they still look like duds on day 14 then I will throw them out.

Good luck and happy hatching!

Then I will be waiting and hoping to see veins .... Crossing fingers....

Thanks for the replies.

My incubator instruction manual (and a few things online) said to check at day 3. So i am glad to hear that this is too early!

Thanks,

Rorie

You can check at day 3 with paler/white eggs. But if they are very dark at all it can be hard to see much that early.

Also make sure you are candeling with a bright enough light

I can't afford an incubator so I am using a little box, lamp, and a cloth. I don't know what breed it is but it is a blue chicken egg. I'm on day 4 and I haven't seen anything in it. I have seen some little black dot's floating around. I am turning it 3 times, and keeping it at *99.5 deggrese. By reading this info do you think it is fertilized?
