Are all Roosters mean??

Ok, Im headed out to get him now. I've never been scared of him before and have picked him up many times, but with his new attitude Im not sure how he's going to react. This is my first time with chickens and my first time killing or processing any animal.

At first he wouldn't come close to me, but stood about 6 feet away, picking up sticks and throwing them down, flapping his wings. He finally came over to get some treats and I made my move, used my hands to push him to the ground but he scooted away from me. Now he won't come near me again. I'll try again after he goes to bed. Wily little bugger.

Just reading this. My pretty Big Boy George, 17 week old BO cockeral, has attacked my sister. Really had a go at her, bit her and kept slamming at her with his feet, puffing his feathers, flapping his wings, scratching at the ground and crowing. He wouldn't back down, even after she gave him a tap with a stick.
This came out of nowhere, no warning signs before this. Im really sad because I love hearing him crow. He's going to freezer camp as soon as I can catch him. I won't get anymore roosters and that sucks because I think they are beautiful and I love the crowing.
My question is...How bad is he going to fight me when I grab him up? Will he go for my face with his beak?

I put my rooster in lock-down (the kennel) until I was ready for freezer camp with a couple of other birds I was doing. He had some hellacious spurs by then. I put on a long sleeved shirt and gloves and just made complete positive steps on grabbing him. I wasn't afraid of him, I will never be afraid of a 3 to 5 pound bird. When he realized I was serious about grabbing him he just tried to get away and I grabbed him, turned him upside down and he got calm. That's all you have to do. If you have to get him in something smaller now, then just wait until night time and only use a little light, they are always calm and my mean rooster didn't even try to fight then.

Thanks guys! I got him and decided to take my other rooster while I was at it. I got them while roosting in the coop and it was quite a bit easier than when they are free ranging. My brother in law is going to help me get them ready for freezer camp, as he's a big hunter and I've never done this before. My girls were a little worried by the sudden disappearance of their head man. Will them being gone cause them distress for a few days?

I don't think so, they will probably be happier without a rooster actually. When mine was gone they didn't seem to notice. One time when my BO was being mean to me I got him and held him down to the ground, all the hens ran over and started to peck him on the head. I figured that was a real sign he needed to go for sure, lol. Glad you got them put up!

Baloney.

Well Im just glad it's over. I really did want a rooster, I think they are beautiful and I love hearing them cock a doodle. But I won't miss him chasing the girls and he was always mean to one of my EE's. He has been chasing her away from the food and she's gotten a bit thin. Today she has been able to eat as much as she wants without any harassment. No more roosters for me.

If you really want a rooster, you might have to go through several until you find one that is a good fit. If you find one, find out why he is available. Ask about his personality.
Don't know how accurate this is, but some people say better roosters are either hen raised or if you put a younger rooster in with hens they are more respectful then if the girls are the same age or younger.
I've had everything from roosters I hated (They were culled) to some that were very nice.
