So I have 4 , 3 day old Silkies , 2 Cochins and now only 1 Millie , all hens .. Hopefully, per My Pet Chicken.

This is the first time I'm using the Brinsea Eco Glo 20 brooder .

They all seemed to love it their first night.

The next day I noticed my 1 Millie was being bullied by the silkies and since I couldn't observe the behavior of the babies , so I don't know how long the bullying had been going on underneath the brooder.

They were keeping her from food and water.

My son and I nursed her most of the night but she was just too small and weak and didn't make it.

Now I noticed the silkies bullying the Cochins and last Millie but I'm taking care of it now and everything's OK.

I was under the impression that silkies were docile , gentle etc , but they are just the opposite.

So , is this normal for silkies ?
If so , do they settle down as they get older ?

Thanks

When small they are like every other chick. As they grow and their crest gets big they don't see so good so can become docile due to not seeing well; trim up the crest and "POOF" an energetic bird emerges!!

I have fiesty ones and I have sweet ones that enjoy being cuddled; it really depends on individual personnalities.
Rita is my dingy one, she has the biggest crest that needs trimming when new feathers come in. It is so funny cus she comes to life when she can see. (She still spaces out though)
