Mine are very friendly. I have three roos and two hens that we have had from eggs. I would even say they are too friendly, constantly underfoot when I'm in the coop.
My first australorp (last year) was pretty shy as a chick, but as an adult she's fairly friendly. I have 3 four week olds in the brooder, and 2 of them are always at the front of the box wanting attention. Only my barred rock is more friendly than they are. Also, my adult austoralorp was the only one of my 4 hens that laid all winter.
Mine is not a cuddler, but she is very docile. She only jumps up in my lap if I have food though...quite the begger. And she's a talker too, my most vocal pullet. As easttxchick said, they are lovely birds. Oh, and mine lays 6 eggs a week. They are an all around good chicken to have imo.

I'm probably not the greatest barometer due to the fact that I am in Deep East Texas(we did have an abnormally cold winter this year, though) and my BAs laid like troopers. Missed VERY few days.
