Birds are not like domesticated dogs or cats, meaning they usually do not eat things that will kill them. Not sure how they know but they do. Rarely see dead squirrels or birds laying around where poison berry plants are. If birds and squirrels are eating them they are ok. I have Holly plants in my yard and they don't go near them even though they have red berries that can be toxic for them.
