Are Black JGs supposed to have white wing feathers?!

Mine did. Oddly, other than being much larger, my Jersey Giant looked identical to my Australorp.

Yup totally normal.

They loose those in one of the juvenile molts.

OK just checking. I bought 10 and 4 have white wing tips so I just wanted to double check that one.


I want pure bred birds because I haven't had any in about a decade but all I really care about is a big bird for eating and great for laying eggs.

Yep, totally normal for black breeds to get a few white feathers in at first!

Yes, true for our BJG.

I posted a thread in the meat bird forum comparing a male BJG and a male Red Dorking that we butchered. You can look it up if you are interested, using the search function. Lots of pics. The BJG was 22 weeks at butcher and weighed (live weight) around 9.5 lbs.
