Are blue eggs ever really blue?

Yes.
I've had ameraucana. Aracauna, Legbars and EE that have all laid pure blue eggs.
The brown egg genes are whats responsible for green tints and there's at least 13 different genes for brown so it isn't hard to get one or two in a line but it's hard to get them out if any get in.

I've honestly wondered if my Ameraucana is purebred even though she came from a hatchery. However, she goes broody where the EEs do not. I was so sad when I realized I wouldn't have any beautiful blue eggs, but the mint green ones are still lovely in my egg basket.

The fact that shr goes broody does not make her a purebreed, here did you get her?

Yes, blue! Our EE lays light blue eggs. Not as blue as some pictures will have you believe, but they're a pretty pastel.

A purebreed ameraucana will only lay blue eggs. If she is laying green or any variation of color besides blue, then she is not pure ameraucana. That said, my easter eggers have the best personalities!

It's now acceptable for them to lay a "blue egg with a slight green tinge"
Seems to me that would be in the eye of the beholder and open a door that shouldn't be opened.

I think the hatchery says just that on their description.

My Easter Eggers are not sociable at all, but one, poor thing, squats when you get within ten feet of her. So she doesn't like it, but it's easy to pick her up.
