Are cats a problem?

Whatever works for you. The important point is that you can’t just bring a cat home and let it loose. It won’t remain on the property unless you get it to own the territory. You will have to confine it in the barn and feed it there for a couple of weeks.

We are thinking about getting barn cats for rat population but I have a bantam. Any thoughts?
We have a barn cat that adopted us when we moved here last year. He likes to hang out with the chickens and doesn’t bother them at all. He is a great hunter and has caught many mice, voles, quail and even a rat. So I am sure he could take a chicken if he felt so inclined.

Here he is with some of our girls. They love to wait until he falls asleep then they will run up and peck his tail or pick dirt from his fur. He just runs for it.
