Are chickens picky about the roost bar?

20180515_203036.jpg I put in a new roosting bar for the chickens. I ripped a 2x4 down to 2 1/2" based on what I've read chickens like, also for cold whee so that their feet are covered in cold weather. the ladies were roosting on the nesting box even though it's lower than the roosting bar. I fixed that. But now they are roosting on the the 2x2 that is nailed to the wall (previously from other owners of coop). I've put them up on the bar that i installed but they don't seem to want to roost on it. Maybe the 2x2 is smaller and easier to roost on some their feet aren't full size yet? Any suggestions, besides only giving them the one option for roosting, to get them roost on the bar that I installed? The roost bar i installed is 20" off of the ground.

As long as they go inside! All is fine.
I use 2x2's at 2' 4' 6' and 8' with ladders and mezzanines (an area 2' x 3' a hen can take her clutch when she moves them to the coop) at 4' and 6'. the ladders I put in for the chicks to get up, surprise the chicks dont use them, the older birds do.
Not all of the birds go to the top area (multiple roosts) some will take the 6' high area, and not always the same birds.
