Are chickens smart enough to come in from the cold?

Kinda late for shelter at that point, huh? I'd have left him in the rain if he liked it that much.

We live in Vermont, and my chickens will go inside when it gets dark, and if we don’t open the door at dark they will all pile on top of each other on the top step and wait.
It is getting cold out in the day but they still want out in the morning, have a monitor in there and there quite noisy until I let them out.
There coop is heated and has electric and insulated,so nice and comfy in there.
But they really don’t go inside in the day,I don’t want them to get hypothermia or frost bite.
