Are chicks afraid of the dark???????????????

I have 5 week old RIRs and I've been leaving a light on at night in the coop. Will they hate to be in the dark??

No, they will be fine. In the wild they don't have a light.

I think actually it might be somewhat bad for them to leave the light on at night. I know it makes adult chickens lay more eggs (since they think it's day time), but it's very rough on their bodies.

They may get upset when you first turn their light off and they may even pile up. In case of a pile up just make sure that nobody is getting crushed at the bottom of the pile (I'm speaking from experience here) and they'll get over after a few days.

They can't see well at night and all the noise does scare them.
