are cornish rocks good layers

The cornish rock x is not a layer but a meat chicken. Most will not make it past 16 weeks as they will die from heat problems. These chickens are bred to eat and be butchered at 6 to 8 weeks. You can find more info on them in the meat chickens section.

I try keeping some for layer once, they layed great, very large eggs, trouble they ate alot more feed than most chickens, have leg trouble, need low roost.

You can keep them to a year without losing them, with proper feeding. You may lose a few, but after 10 weeks, it cost way to much to feed them.

Try in once, but never again. you want a large chicken keep a few rooster till 12 weeks, HUGE look like small turkey.
