I have a question regarding baby chicks. We recently purchased 23 layers and 27 Cornish Crosses. They are kept in adjoining brooders in the garage and have been eating and drinking well. 1 week later and I have lost none of the layers but lost a Cornish X on the first night, one yesterday and I am nursing one now, but I do not think it will make it. Is this to be expected with Cornish X's. Should I always expect a few to pass when buying? Heat has been all over the place in Iowa, freezing temps one day and 70s the next. I think I have a good hold of the brooder temps. I just dont know!

Can you post pics of the your set? What temps in the brooder do you have? What heat source? Is over crowding possible? What are they eating? Do you have chick grit in there? Any pasty butt? There are so many things that can go wrong with chicks that it's hard to know without more detail. That is alot of chicks and losing a few might be totally normal. Not sure.....
