Is it safe for chickens to eat dahlia petals? I googled, but have not gotten too much information. I have not found anything that says dahlias are harmful to chickens, only that they likely would not like them. I have an abundance of dahlias at the house and thought I'd give it a try since my little poopers go nuts over marigolds! Thank you!

Well, I'll be. I had typed a response stating that dahlias are not edible. Turns out I was wrong!!!

All dahlia flowers and tubers are edible.
  1. Dahlia – Flavours range from water chestnut and spicy apple to carrot.
I realize this is an older post and probably won’t be answered but there is nothing in that link specific to chickens eating dahlias that I found. I too have a large dahlia garden and would love to feed them the clippings and blooms but can’t find a solid yes or no that chickens can eat them!

I'll let you know if mine get sick. They were eating the leaves just now. I personally do not like the smell of old dahlia flower petals.

The leaves and flowers have been eaten, and they are just fine. I had to put the fence back up so they wouldn't destroy the roots. I guess just because the deer and rabbits don't like them doesn't mean chickens don't.
How did they go?? :)
