Are Delawares really a heritage breed?

Anyone planning on mass producing broilers of one breed[ not meat type males over production type hens] had better start with a dual purpose breed. Imagine feeding a flock of parent stock hoping to make a profit on 40 - 50 eggs per hen a year when you can get 220 -230 for the same feed costs. Tom
