I was reading a blog last night and the lady said that you should use golf balls/ping pong balls/fake ceramic eggs instead of the plastic Easter eggs in the nesting boxes to show them where to lay. She said because the plastic eggs are too light? Aren't ping pong balls light though? I didn't know if that was true or not. Do I need to get golf balls instead or am I fine with the plastic eggs?

Then this morning when I went into the coop I saw that they had taken one of the eggs out and opened it...I don't know if they just rolled it out and it opened, or if they actually broke it open. I don't know if that means anything at all! haha

Whatever works. I used a blue ceramic egg I had in the house, and they would roll it from nesting box to nesting box, and finally started to lay their own eggs. The first egg ended up on the floor of the run, but the rest, for the most part, ended up in the nesting boxes. I started to find the ceramic egg rolled out of the boxes, so I took it inside. They do just fine now with the nesting boxes! If all you have is the plastic easter eggs, put some sand in them and use those.
