My chickens really love grubs and I wondered if grubs and worms are full of protein. I have heard that during molting chickens need lots of protein. Also, are beetles full of protein?

During the molt feed the chickens some dry cat food. Lots of protein. I think the recommended amount is 5 pieces a day but that can be a real pain if you have a lot of chickens. I also feed a mixture of scrambled eggs (cooled) and mixed with cottage cheese. Looks yucky but full of protein.

I have a friend who buys eggs from me - she often brings grubs that they have taken from their compost pile - the chickens love em!

Yogurt, buttermilk, fish, eggs, sunflower seeds, 20% chicken feed are all better than cat food for providing protein.

The birds not only need additional protein, they need proper nutrition, amino acids. Cat food is too high in sodium and does not meet the nutritional needs of chickens.
