Are Guineas Racist?

Howdy yall... picked me up eight Guinea keets last Sunday and just a few question with the obvious/silly one in the subject line?


1. It always seems like the little white guys are always getting kicked out of the sleeping circle and to make matters worse it is being done by the runt of the litter with Napoleon syndrome, when we pick him up he even kind of freaks out. (he or she who knows?)

2. When can I start to give them treats and what can I give them?

3. Is it even worth trying to pick them up and imprint like that or should I just sit with them? They freaking nuts.....

4. These keets are one week old and will be two weeks old by the time I get my 15 Black Australorp chicks (3 day old) in there with them. Do yall forsee any issues with that?

Well, at least with my guys have noticed that the colors sort of tend to stick together. I frequently see the two white ones together, the blue ones together, the violets together and the boring colored ones mixed in. They do all intermingle but their preference seems to be by color. I started giving mine a little millet after they were about two weeks old. They go crazy for it! I also started giving mine some meal worms when they were about a month old until they were able to get outside and now just over the winter when there are no bugs for them. I didn't work too much on handling, but I don't mind that they aren't super friendly. Mine all know that I am the bringer of the food and that is fine with me. I would imagine if you worked with them more they would be a little easier to handle, but that is really up to you as to how you want them to be handled when they are older. As for the chickens I have no experience on that, so maybe someone else can help you out there. Good luck and enjoy them when they are little, that's when they are the cutest!

Well chicks got here today and put them in 17 total and the guineas are doing just fine with them so far, they are all snuggling..... I have built an 8 x 4 brooder for all them when they turn 4 weeks sand is drying out now. Otherwise they are in a 4x4 IBC Tote cut in half..... seems to be working fine.....

I don't think there would be an issue with mixing the two together I think that they are young enough that they will just fit right in
