Are hens happier without a rooster?

I ask this because today when I was feeding them all of the hens came to eat with the rooster and my favorite hen came up and my rooster attacked her grabbing her comb and climbing on her back. They are around 13 weeks old. I have 4 gems and 1 rooster. You know that one 10% chance of getting one lol. I've been debating getting rid of the rooster even though he's good about taking care of the girls, he's loud and tends to chase me when I forget to show my dominance first thing in the morning. And because I always like showing off pictures....

You don't need a rooster to have healthy hens, but my hens are much happier with their rooster. However, they don't like the teen roosters that over-breed them.
The rooster is a teen and is learning how to breed with them. They are aggressive during this time, but usually calm with age.

However, if he is aggressive towards you, it is best to get rid of him.

Nice looking birds!

You don't need a rooster but if your hens grew up with the rooster then they might be upset if you get rid of him. But that's just what I have noticed it might be different for you.
