Are honking noises normal for chickens?

Sorry if it's a silly question. I'm new to chicken-keeping and I've only been around chicks and adult chickens before, never teenage chickens.

My barred rock is about 10 weeks old. She started making weird honking sounds about 1-2 weeks ago. I just laughed it off at first, because it reminded me of teenage boys' awkward voice phases, but now the noises are louder and more frequent. She especially does this when she's greeting me and/or talking to me (likely asking for treats). It's still kind of funny, but am starting to wonder if it's not that normal. Or, maybe she's a he? Eep! The noises are a scratchy ONNNK ONK HHHONK.

My other 3 chicks (Australorp & 2 EEs) are about 2 weeks younger and still making chick-like peeping and chirping noises.

I just took those photos earlier today:

Yep, she is getting her big girl voice. I just had the same question about mine last week. She now makes more grown up chicken noises.

I agree - it does sound funny! My two pullets went through a whole repertoire of sounds for the better part of a week before they started sounding more chicken-like. It was very entertaining. I think your chicken looks like a girl to me, BTW - in case you're wondering if you could have a cockerel instead of a pullet. The rounded hackle feathers are a good indication that it's a "she" to me.

I have 4 faverolles girls, 1 sussex girl, and a wyandotte boy.

The faverolles (12 weeks) honk.
The sussex (10 weeks) chirps.
The wyandotte (12 weeks) only makes a quiet whining whistle/whine noise (hard to describe).

We have quite the chorus when it's treat (or me trying to pick them up and them trying to escape) time.

Too cute. Chicken symphony!
