Sorry if it's a silly question. I'm new to chicken-keeping and I've only been around chicks and adult chickens before, never teenage chickens.
My barred rock is about 10 weeks old. She started making weird honking sounds about 1-2 weeks ago. I just laughed it off at first, because it reminded me of teenage boys' awkward voice phases, but now the noises are louder and more frequent. She especially does this when she's greeting me and/or talking to me (likely asking for treats). It's still kind of funny, but am starting to wonder if it's not that normal. Or, maybe she's a he? Eep! The noises are a scratchy ONNNK ONK HHHONK.
My other 3 chicks (Australorp & 2 EEs) are about 2 weeks younger and still making chick-like peeping and chirping noises.
