Are hybrid chickens profitable?, Will people be interested in them?

If the cross is for a recognized purpose, ie a Black Sex Link or Red Sex Link, the chicks are desirable for the sexing ability at hatch. Further, these crosses often are intended to produce excellent laying hens.

But a generic hybrid/mutt has far less appeal, I should think. Yes, all are mixes, mutts, or hybrids, but far different purpose and intention. And, what about all the roosters? How much market is there for any kind of mutt rooster? Also the breeding those hybrids/mutts/mixes again produces a real hodge podge. Some might even say a mess.

To the OP. Profitable how? Selling fertile eggs, chicks, or birds? Think this through carefully. There's no shortage of barnyard mix mutts in the chicken world.

I'm going to be doing some cross breeding intentionally this spring. List as follows,

Blue wheaten Ameraucana rooster X White Leghorn hen- my hope is the dominate blue egg gene will be present in the hybrid layers but will lay bigger and more eggs with the genetics of the leghorn.

Norwegian Jaerhon rooster X White Leghorn hen. Jaerhons are know to be good layers. They also carry genes for small bodies, high feed to egg conversion ratio, large to jumbo egg size with very hard off white egg shell, and high disease and pest resistance. They are calm and not flighty even friendly. They still make this cross in the country they originated in Norway for their commercial egg production, the offspring from that cross is supposed to be better that the white leghorn.

Black Copper Marans to Ameraucanas- this cross creates an offspring that use the dark egg genes from the marans and the dominant blue gene from the Ameraucanas this breeding creates a darker olive green egg layer with hybrid vigor.
