Yeah, I agree with that. I don't think it's required to provide attributions for public domain material, but I think that one should still do so whenever possible. I checked the Creative Commons license requirements and all versions of the license require attribution, but some only allow noncommercial use, some require that adaptations be released under the same license, and some don't allow adaptations.Just from an integrity perspective....so as not to misrepresent yourself.
So, one should either use their own images, use public domain images with an attribution, or use images with a free license consistent with the terms of the license.
