Are Male Peafowl usually aggressive to people?

I am so glad to read your posts. I am comparing notes and finding a similarity. The peacocks I have I believe are Indian. They were hand raised by me in the house. They would follow me, sit on my lap, pull on my shoe laces when I was putting on my boots. Now they have turned 3 years old and turned on me with no fear. It breaks my heart to think I might have crossed the line by being too close to them that maybe they see me as one of them and feel I am competition. . I hate the thought that I am the cause for them being aggressive and now have to be kept penned up. I don't see any other way. Way too dangerous to allow them to roam free. I don't want to pawn them off on someone so I guess their fate is sealed to be caged or eliminated. So sad. I feel I have failed them.

I am sorry you have had to go threw this it seems in some cases the peacocks that are handled daily with no objection many time will result in attacks when they become breeding age, most all of my peafowl are imprinted will do all the things you describe but i rarely try to handle them unless it is for putting ivermec on them as a lice preventive a couple times a year, none of my males has ever become aggressive with me so far and i have had peafowl for 5 years and 14 males here. I am not real sure yet but i think we cross the line in the touching part of raising them, mabe they become so accustom to being handled that they have no fear of being touched, mine on the other had will make that fussy sound if i try to pet them and i am fine with that cause they do not go around touching each other so i respect their space as they do with each other.

Green blooded peafowl are known for being aggressive during mating season weather they are imprinted or not .

Please share some photos of your pretty's in the show off your peas section if you have any and if you have any questions or need help please don't hesitate to ask we are all here to help and learn from each other

Thank you zazouse I needed that. I am in tears right now, just an emotional release. I felt so very horrible yesterday when I let my beautiful birds out and they began sneaking around behind me and then jumping at me. They are strong and my arm was bleeding and for the first time was fearful of serious harm. One jumped up so high I thought he was going to get me in the face. I got a stick to discourage them and again one jumped at me and I swung to knock him away and I hit him right on the head. I thought I killed him he was out cold and as he was flopping around much like when you chop a chicken his buddy saw an opportunity to start pouncing on him. I was frantic, adrenaline pumping, confused as to what happened to my 'pets' After reading your message I was able to have an emotional dumping. Now to move on. What do I do next... Do you think they will calm down at some point? Will their hormones settle with the mating season?
After 'Nugget' got his senses back I hoped he would remember and keep his distance but when I went in to check on him I think he was holding a grudge and charged me again anyway. The way its going I will have to open the door chuck some food and water in fast and get out before they get me. Its a nightmare.

They may stop after mating season , IMO from watching them go after each other they do not give up till one gets to hurt to fight and runs and hides and in your case that would be you unless you , and they will do this all season even the injured one will go back to sparing ones he has healed

how old is your boy?

These are brothers they will be 4 this coming August, they have no hens to themselves and this is what they do the entire breeding season , the next day you might find them preening each other they are inseparable and they have never caused each other harm.

same boys next day

They don't fan for me. I let them out of their pen which is an 8X10 shed with a 10'X10' fenced area. It has a sliding glass front door and when they saw me coming with food and water they came to the door and I had some bread for them. When I realized they were not interested in the bread but me. As they circled me I tossed the rest of the bread and began to walk away and they followed me. When I faced them one started to squat as if to attack and the other got behind me. I would face the one but then the one behind launched at me. When I turned to face that one the other got behind me and this time almost got my face. Now I am frightened of them. I'm trying to figure this all out and went in the pen and satdown and not untill I stood up did he launch at me, no fanning, just launching, feet and wings at lightning speed. I hate this....

Nugget and Archie are 3 years old. I love the photos. wow How long on average is mating season. My only hope is they will chill when the hormones calm down.

I know this hurts they see you as one of them from their behavior mine still look at me as their mom IMO i watch them spar all the time they circle each other left then right, one flinches like a fake attack and if the other does the same they launch into the air.

Have they ever spared with each other?

Ok i will ask again how old are they?

He is a series of shots of how they circle and then attack.
