I have 2 Sultans, 2 SLWs and a buff Cochin bantam-yes, a very motley crew. Are any of these girls going to be announcing their eggs? I have read, here and there, about some hens that are just very loud when they are about to lay, when they lay and even after they lay. My girls are just over 7 weeks old. So we have a while before the laying begins.

My buff cochin (not bantam, full size) has a LOT to say, both about her own and everyone else's eggs. She also talks about squirrels and cats, rain, wind, the sound of the train a few blocks away, sparrows, and small aircraft flying overhead.

I think a lot of behavior in chickens is more individual than breed specific.

I swear the whole flock is a bunch of chatty chickens. Sometimes they are chatting at 3am!!!! Today is day 2 for being out on their own. I worry about them, though. But I think they all will announce every aspect of their lives to my neighborhood. My smaller Wyandotte just peep-peep-peeps all morning long. And the Sultans are my flock's personal alarm system. "run for the hills"!!!
