Are my chickens bowing to me? And other questions

The chickens aren't really 'bowing' to you. It is called squatting. Most of my girl do that except for one which walks away when ever i pet it. Hehe, it looks like theyre really scared when i pet them.

I have a pullet named Ruby too, and she "squatted" for the first time this morning. My other pullet, Maxine, has been doing it for a couple days now. I was beginning to think they were challenging my authority because they usually "squatted" when I had to pull them away from the garden or put them in the coop before bedtime. Glad to know they think I am a handsome roo and excited that we are closer to fresh eggs!

im jealous, my babies wont let me touch them,,they take food out of my hand and come near me but they wont let me pick them up or,touch them..i hand raised them and love them so much,so it kinda sucks they wont let me touch them..

Try touching them at night in the coop. They will be easier to reach and calmer.

Mine were like that as well...they would follow me around hoping for handouts, tripping over my feet but the second I'd reach for them they would jump away. Their behavior changed dramatically once they started squatting, now I can pick them up at will and they don't struggle at all. If I set one on my lap, she'll just sit there and softly cluck, seemingly happy with the attention. It's like they are different birds!

Mine wouldn't let me pet them until they started squatting. Now when I have a hen loose in the yard I just have to hover over her. She will squat and I can pick her up and love on her. The hens that aren't squatting are impossible to catch.
