Are my chickens going Hanibal Lecter on me??

A owl sounds like a good candidate. The chickens head in around dark and this one was a good 20 or 30 ft away from the coop. I don't think I have seen weasels or minks in the area. There are minks down by the creek a little ways away but it would be a good trip for a mink. But I have seen and heard owls around. I don't think I have seen any chicken hawks. I hope this isn't going to be a daily occurrence. Is there any way to scare owls or other predators off? We have a German Shepard pup that fairly big that didn't scare it off. Do aluminum pie pans mounted on sticks scare them off?

covered run with bird netting is the only thing. the thing that work for hawks is not work for wise old owls. I had one that kept striking within 10 minutes after sunrise.
