My Chickens are 1 year, 5 months old. I've never heard of chickens molting in summer, but it seems that way. I have 9 hens and 1 rooster. 4 of the hens have lost a bit of their pin feathers around their chest or on their back. The rooster could have something to do with the loss of feathers on the back.The feather loss is noticeable but nothing like a good hard fall/winter molt. Egg production has gone from say 7-9 a day to 4-5.
Here's something else to consider...
In March, I switched up their food for a about 6 weeks. Egg production fell off a cliff during that time. I moved them right back to the food they were raised with and production came back to the 4-5.
How common is it to molt at this time (15 months)? How long should this last?
