My chickens are just roosting on my laying boxes.

Why when they have a good roost.

Is the roost lower or just as high as the nesting box? The pictures appear that way - and that is likely the problem. Chickens will roost on the highest point, so the roost needs to be higher to make it the most attractive place to be. An angled "roof" (slanted higher in the back on the wall to lower at the front of the box) on the nesting boxes will also help discourage roosting, and make the nest a nice, dark place to go just to lay the eggs and not to roost.
