Hi everybody,

I'm kinda new to this but I'm wondering in if my chick's are happy we have them in the garage and it's kinda warm today in the low 80's when I have the heat lamp on they are making a mess in there pen and eating and drinking just fine but then when I turn the light off they are sleep cuddled together are they cold in 80 degrees weather? They are a week old??

When chicks are huddled up together they are cold. Newly hatched chicks should have a temp. under the heat lamp of 95 degrees, each week you can lower it by 5 degrees by moving the lamp a bit farther away. When chicks are at a good temp, they will lay independently. If they are too hot they will be panting and possibly have their baby wings lifted away from their body to cool off.

Thank you!!! I just worry cuz it's so warm in our garage the temp in there says 85 but with them being a week old about the temp should be about 90

glad to have you join us.

No matter what temp, when lights are out, they sleep.

Place a thermometer in the brooder floor level where they are and judge the heat light based on that temp and how the chicks are acting.

Ok so I won't stress about them sleeping whenever the light is out its really warm in the garage there is no way they could be cold the thermometer says between 85 and 90
