My dad wants to put our less than two week old chicks in the coop. Me and my dad made the coop together and it is fully insulated, he says that if we put the lamp in there that they will be fine. We put them in there, but i am worried! They are big, but they weren't really outgrowing the brooder YET. No matter what my papa says!

I really need to know, is it too soon? Should I go and get them? Or will they be fine in the coop? HELP!!!!

Going to depend on where you live (weather wise), if it is insulated and has a heat lamp... you should be fine.

I live in Ohio, rainy and still cold at nights. Last night we had frost. My chicks have been on my mud porch since day old (have 6). I use a brooder light and on really cold nights, i have a space heater on the porch. I'm one of those crazy people who heat my coop in the winter, the people at TSC laugh that I heat my coop, but I feel it is important for the health of my flock and gives me peace of mind when I'm sitting in my warm, cozy house.

During the day, it is around 50-55 here, so i remove heat during the day. As long as there is no drafts and you use heat/warmth at night, so far, I've had no issues.

We have had are chicks outside in a brooder in the coop scents we brought them home at 3 days old. I think they well be fine as long as you have a heat lamp. good luck with your chicks and don't worry every new person with chicks worries about them. I know I still worry about owes but its just not a possibly to keep them inside because of are 1 year old Husky puppy she has not learned that chickens are friends not food. I am sure as long as they have the heat lamp they will be fine. Good luck with your chicks.

Chicks can be brooded from day 1 in a coop/shed/barn as long as they have a heat lamp making a nice, warm place for them to rest and draft protection. If your coop has a pop door, I'd block that off until they're a little older.
