Basically we purchased these ducks from a local breeder, they were advertised as simply 'Indian runner ducks' and were 9 weeks old when we got them. They are now 16 weeks old but as you can see by the pictures they don't actually resemble runners and do to have that verticle appearance we had expected. Essentially these are pets so they are now part of the family. I guess my question is, what are they? Are they a cross breed or just shorter fatter looking runners, if they are cross can anyone tell me what they are crossed with? Many thanks.

They are crossbreds - white bird looks as if there may be some runner influence. Many of the mallard derived crosses are so similar in appearance that it is hard to guess at genetics of such birds. They are beauties and are in great condition.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree with sourland that they are cross breeds. I'm not a duck expert but they don't look like any other runner ducks I have seen. They look beautiful and so does your garden very tidy!! Have you dropped by the duck section for all the duck chat? If you have not already here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

I agree with Sourland, the white one is trying his best to look like a runner duck - close but, no cigar! They are beautiful though but, I wouldn't certainly give the seller a piece of my mind. I hate deceptive selling practices.
