I have been trying to stabalize temps in my incubator all night and all morning. Temps are all over the place. Once I think I have them stable, they jump to 102 and even 104 at one point but only for about 20 mins. I am having a really hard time. Do you think my eggs are lost not because of the high temps even if it was just for a short period of time?

I just put the eggs in yesterday evening.

I have had my incubator run up on me for possible several hours (I have wood heat so temperature stabilization is a running battle!) and chicks made it. Cut WAY down on hatch rate, but I had chicks survive.

Its nice to know that there is still a chance that it will not be a total loss for me. I think I am going to order a new incubator. This is far too much work.

If you have an infrared thermometer, you can open your incubater (you can't get an accurate reading through a glass viewing window, and take the temps of the egg shells. I have found that even though my bator ran hot (sometimes showing 104 and 106) that when I took the temp of the eggs, they were all sitting at 99-100. Another thing that I may try eventually, is inserting a thermometer into a small water toy and placing that inside like an egg... you'll get a better idea of what is really happening inside there. I have two digital thermometer/hydrometers and the temp reads different than each other. (usually it's 102 and 99/100) This is only my second batch, but when candling I do see growth and movement so I know that this method is working for me so far <knock on wood>
