Finally after much waiting we are staring to get eggs from our 4 chickens. I have a question for you experianced egg people. Our chickens lay at all hours of the day and sometimes we are not able to retrieve them for a couple of hours. Should I be worried and how long can eggs sit in the coop before they are bad? Are my eggs safe? Look forward to hearing form y'all. Thanks

when u say eggs sitting in the coop before tehy go bad, i am wondering what you mean?

from my reading of your post you seem to be concerned that eggs will in someway become unsafe to use (?by humans) if they are not collected straight away?

i collect my eggs as soon as i can, but some days it could be several hours. i do not put my eggs in the fridge, so tehy remain at room temperature, so see no reason why there would be a problem with them sitting outside in the coop, if for some reason i am out and not able to collect.

as i understand, the problem with uncollected eggs could be that the little ladies decide to eat them. not a problem i have had though

but as far as eggs going bad is concerned, dont think you need to worry

Welcome to BYC!!! And congratulations on getting eggs!

The eggs will be fine unrefrigerated for the entire day at least. There is a final coating that goes on the egg during the laying process that gives it some protection. Best not to wash eggs (if needed) until you eat them as this protective layer will be washed off.
