Are my hens molting?

My hens are 20 months old. (Golden comment and black sex Link.) They are losing some feathers in their chest area. Otherwise they seem fine. I didn't think this is where molting would start, but based on their age, I think it makes the most sense.

Yes, plenty of chickens start molting on their chests.

Yes, plenty of chickens start molting on their chests.

How do the chickens stay warm without their feathers if it gets cold outside before they get their new coat? (obviously, they aren't missing many feathers at the moment.)
