are my hens too young to start eating corn on cob

I have some eight to nine week old hens and I read that they like corn on the cob so I fed them an ear yesterday. To say they liked it would be an understatement. But, I wonder if they are to young to begin eating foods like this? Also, if it's ok, how often can you feed them these kinds of food.

They are old enough to handle such healthy treats. A general rule of thumb is that 'additives' should not make up more than 10 % of their diet.

Thanks, good to know. I also give them a small mealworm treat (a big hit as well) but not too often. Being that I'm a newbie to BYC's I don't want to cause digestive problems.

Yes, I believe that my wife has expressed the same opinion - anything and everything - no cucumbers, thanks anyways.

Corn on the cob is a great occasional treat. I boil it and refrigerate as a snack in hot weather. Meal worms are a great source of protein. Alfafa hay is also a great healthy treat. They should love oatmeal or rolled oats too in moderation. I use that rather than scratch as a treat as scratch isn't good to feed when it's really hot and it's REALLY hot here. Enjoy your peepers!

I grew up in the midwest and my Dad always had a big garden and he grew so many different veggie that I learned to eat them all, even cucs.
